About Me

Mr. Gerson: Torrance, CA, United States; I am the full-time algebra teacher at Calle. I have been teaching for 14 years, and nine of them have been at Calle Mayor. I hold both, a multiple-subject and a single-subject, teaching credentials from the State of California. I have also been authorized by the State to hold the job of administrator, principal or assistant principal. I have my Master of Arts degree from Whittier College. My near term goal is to apply to begin my doctorate next year at the University of Southern California.

My undergraduate work focused on the biological bases of behavior and adolescent antisocial behavior. My graduate research focused on bullying and technology in mathematics instruction. I presented my most recent research at the 5th International Congress for Qualitative Inquiry.

I have coached and refereed soccer for 19 years. I was the center official in a CIF - Southern Section Final in 2008. I also had the pleasure of being one of six referees selected as a center official for a championship match in the first CIF - Regional Finals. In 2011, I was chosen as the center official for the CIF - City Section Large School Final as seen on television.

The School Competition occurred on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in the cafeteria during 5th and 6th period.

6th grade

1st place: Edward X.

2nd place: Joey M.

3rd place: Kyle O.

7th grade

1st place: Yuta K.

2nd place: Willy W.

3rd place: Kevin K.

8th grade

1st place: Eric X.

2nd place: Trent O.

3rd place: Sean K.

The Chapter Competition occurred at Northrop-Grumman in El Segundo on Friday, February 4, with awards announced on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

Calle Mayor took Second Place Team.

Eric X. took First Place Individual with a perfect score.

The State Competition occurred at the University of California, Irvine, on Saturday, March 19, 2011.

Calle Mayor took Seventh Place Team

Eric X. took Tenth Place Individual and was the only mathlete from the South Bay/Santa Monica Chapter to be called up for the Countdown Round (Top 12 Students).

Congratulations to team members Sean K., Trent O., and Edward X. for their outstanding contributions.
