Graph by Intercepts (CA SS: 6.0)

1. Solve your equation for the y-intercept by replacing x with 0.  (0, y)
2. Solve your equation for the x-intercept by replacing y with 0.  (x, 0)
3. You can put it in table form too.
4. Draw your coordinate plane.
5. Graph and label the two ordered pairs.
6. Draw the line (with arrows at the endpoints).
7. Label your line with the original equation.

Journal Entry:
Today, we went over our homework and saw what people did wrong on it. Some common mistakes were about how you need to use graph paper, plot the points, straight lines, or etc. We also learned about y intercept and x intercept. All y intercepts, X must be zero. And, all X intercepts, Y has to be zero.
Here was a problem we did in class today:
3x+y=9

3(0)+y=9 Y-Intercept
0+y=9
y=9 (0,9)

3x+0=9 X-Intercept
3x/3=9/3
x=3 (3,0)

After you find out the two points, you plot them on the graph.

Journal entry:
Today in math we learned about graphing by intercepts. the x and y intercept is the point were the line crosses the x and y axis.in the y intercept the abscissa is always zero and in the y intercept the ordinate is always zero.
Here is an example
3x+y=9

x intercept
3x+0=9
3x/3=9/3
x=3
(3,0)

Y intercept
3(0)+y=9
0+y=9
y=9
(0,9)

plot the two points on a coordinate plain and make a line.

JOURNAL ENTRY 12/15/10
In the beginning, we went over the common mistakes of our homework, such as not using graph paper, not labeling the problem, messy lines, etc, Then we continued onto today's lesson, which was focused on the x and y intercept. It is the point where the line crosses either the x or y axis. Also, the X in all y intercepts MUST be zero, and vice versa for the x intercept.

3x + y = 9
------------
Y intercept
3(0) + y = 9
0 + y = 9
y = 9 (0, 9)

X intercept
3x + 0 = 9
3x/3 = 9/3
x = 3 (3, 0)
------------

Once you find the two points, you should be able to plot them on a graph.

I find it kinda sad how it's 9:28 and only 3 people posted journal entries. That's only 25% of everyone that should have went today! :(

P.S. I already finished 25 problems on that Mathcounts sprint round thing out of the 30.

JOURNAL ENTRY :
In class today , we talked about 'graph by intercepts'. We learned that there are two kinds of intercepts called the x-intercept and the y-intercept and that the x-intercept must have 0 as it's y-coordinate and the y-intercept must have 0 as it's x-coordinate.

Not only did we learn about 'graph by intercepts', we also looked over just a handful amount of people's homework and saw what we should do. Many of us finally understood how to label the lines because most of us did not know how to do it. Also, we were given a small tip : to use a ruler to draw a straight line on the graph to make it more accurate.

You only have 40 minutes.
Also, 2006 Chapter Sprint tends to be an easier year.
