for 11 and 13 on page 91, we just put the numbers in the parenthesis over 1 and then multiply right?

ok start working from the inside out.
8[7-6(4-2)]
so use the distributive property; negative six multiplies four and negative two
8[7-24+12]
so then work all the stuff in the grouping symbols
8[-17+12]
8[-5]
so finally you get -40
