Prepare for the Chapter 2 Test

Only 94 students completed the sample test by 9:30 this morning.  Why would a student not want to take a form of the test in preparation for the chapter test?  How was the sub?

yup i got a question for you number 42 and 43?
42 so the directions say to factor this 9a-9 and i got 3(3a-3) the book say its 9(a-1) am i wrong or right??? and its the same for number 43! the question say to factor 8x-32y-8 and i got 4(2x-8y-2) but the book says something different

i checked my work and both seemed to work but i was just wondering if im right or not!! please help!! thanks

He was okay.

Mr. Gerson, will you be at school tomorrow? Because I wanted to ask you some questions before the test if I could.. If not, hopefully you could answer them now.

umm for taylor's problem

ok first start out with 9a-9
they can both be divided right? that is basically the gcf.
so it turns out as
9(a)+9(-1)
then
9(a-1)

AllisanAper2 said...

Taylor, you are right but you can divide both 9's by a bigger number 9! so instead of dividing both by 3 divide both by 9, and you will get 9(a-1) ! *hope that helps!*

Natasha L Per.4 said...

ok then number 43
start out with 8x-32y-8
again the gcf is 8 so divide all the numbers by eight
8(x)+8(-4y)+8(-1)
so it turns out as;
8(x-4y-1)

Anthonyl per3 said...

k so you would do number 42 by seeing what all the numbers have in common. so if the problem was, 9a-9, what do they have in common? 9. so you factor so 9a-9/9 so your final answer is 9(1-a), because you put the bottom number in the fraction on the outside and the top numbers in parenthesis in simplest form. so yea thats number 42...also check your work by using the distributive property!

Anthonyl per3 said...

yea so on 43 they all have 8 in common, use the highest divisible number as possible which is 8

is tommorow the chapter test?

Anthonyl per3 said...

ok so 54, the problem is 3p-4(8p-3).
First, use distributive property to get rid of the parenthesis, making it 3p-32p+12

Second, simplify all like terms so you would subtract 3p and 32p making it -29p

Lastly, there are no more terms that can be simplified so your answer is -29p+12

Taylor,
Both answers are right, but if the book says 9(a-1) just right that down

Natasha L Per.4 said...

I guess so........
because
1.we had most of the chapter wrap up for homework
2.mr. gerson says prepare for the test
3.we did another pratice test for chapter 2
so concluding from that I guess we're gonna have it tomorrow or sometime VERY soon........

For subtraction of a positive and a negative, is it like adding the numbers but the answer would be a negative?
Also, If your adding or subtracting fractions, would you find a common denominator or just add/subtract it the way it is?
And one more thing, if your subtracting 2 negatives, would you add them and make it a negative number or would you do something else?
(Mr.Mendoza was Okay) :]
