Remove the Greatest Monomial Factor
Check for the Difference of Two Squares
Check for a Perfect Square Trinomial
Factor x2+bx+c
Factor ax2+bx+c
Factor by Grouping
ALWAYS FACTOR COMPLETELY!
We skipped Step 3 yesterday because we were missing many students today who went to a leadership conference. We went back to do Step 3 today.

Mr. Gerson, I was absent today due to a fever and sore throat but today was my turn to write the journal entry for the blog. What should I do?

Today in Mr. Gersons class, we went over most of the stuff that we did yesterday like step 4 (the dimond that looks like this........ a2+2ab+b2=(a+b)2 or.... a2-2ab+b2=(a-b)2 other examples and/or notes that we took were:
a) x2+8x+16= (x+4)2
b) x2-10x+25=(x-5)2=(x-5)2
do we do the hw if we were at the leadership confrence since we do not understand/ know what was taught?
for Ms. Kim English what section for flowers for algernon do we use? The first or second because i am using the red textbook.

Today I learned the 3rd step in Factoring Algorithim: Check for a perfect square trinomial. When you factor it you do this:
x2+8x+16 = (x+4)2 where 2 = squared
and where you find if x2 and 16 are perfect squares and what sign 8x is. That is how you get (x+4)2 because x is the sqaure root of x2 and 4 is the square root of 16. The diamond method can also be applied to figure out the problem.

So today, in class.....
We learned how to check for perfect square trinomial. To see if something is a perfect square trinomial, make sure its first and last term are perfect squares. When factoring it,Mr. Gerson told us to remember "square root, sign, square root" that means we take the square of the first term, the sign of the second term, and the square of the third term. You can use the diamond method too to factor. Overall, I thought today's lesson was pretty easy to understand!

EXAMPLES WE DID IN CLASS:

(x squared plus 8x plus 16)
after you do the dimond and do all the math, your answer would be
(x+4)(x+4) since that is multiplyiing the same thing twice, your final answer would be...
(x+4)² （x+4 to the 2nd power)
b)x²-10x+25=____________
(x squared minus 10x plus 25)
after you do the dimond and do all the math, your answer would be
(x-5)(x-5) since tht is
multiplying the samething twice,
your final answer would be...
(x-5)² (x-5 to the 2nd power)

Today i learned about a perfect square trinomial, so pretty much what we learned yesterday. The first thing you need to do is look for the greatest factor, then you solve to see if it's a perfect square or not.
For example:
a)x2+8x+16 <-No greatest factor
=(x+4)2 <-Perfect square
because 4+4=8
and 4x4=16

(x+4)(x+4) which should be written as
(x+4)²
If the answer is like (x+4) (x+4)
you HAVE to put it as (x+4)²
